Your Nervous System appreciates when you simply say “It’s a lot”
Have you ever found yourself trying to prioritize what you need to worry about most? Have you ever made list after list trying to put the demands on you in some kind of order so you knew what to try to tackle next? Have you ever spent time and energy trying to remember which crazy stressful thing happened first…and exactly how long was it between this loss and that trauma?
Try this: Take a deep breathe and let it all the way out and then say out loud “it’s a lot”. Don't try to figure anything out. Don't try to prioritize or sort or put things in order. Just breathe into it…It's a lot.
Your nervous system really appreciates it when you step back, actually or metaphorically, and just say “it's a lot”.
Our lives are busy and full. The world right now is busy and full and loud. We just got through a pandemic. And that doesn't even include all the things that have personally happened to you this year, last year and all the way back.
Switch to your wide angle lens and breathe into the whole big mess. No details required. It’s a lot.
Breathe in and out a few times. Wiggle your fingers and toes. If there are feelings, let them happen. If you feel numb or shocked, just notice that. Your body knows what you need and you can zoom in on those individual stressors another time.
Just breathe. It’s a lot.
